XPEL PRIME XR Plus ceramic window tint helps make this three-row Tesla more comfortable for drivers and passengers.

Another 2027 Tesla Model Y L recently arrived at Blue Ocean Auto Spa in Cedar Park, Texas, for a complete ceramic window tint installation. This marks our third Model Y L project, giving our team additional hands-on experience with Tesla's three-row SUV.

For this customer, the priority was straightforward: reduce heat entering the cabin and improve comfort for passengers in the first, second, and third rows.

To address those goals, Andrew installed XPEL PRIME XR Plus dual-layer ceramic window tint across the vehicle's glass, including the windshield and panoramic roof.

XPEL PRIME XR Plus Ceramic Tint for the Tesla Model Y L

With three rows of seating and extensive glass coverage, the Model Y L presents unique considerations for window tinting.

The customer selected XPEL PRIME XR Plus, our premium dual-layer ceramic window film, which offers:

  • Up to 96% infrared heat rejection, helping reduce heat transmitted through the glass
  • 99% UV protection, helping protect passengers and interior materials from harmful ultraviolet rays
  • Excellent optical clarity for comfortable driving
  • Enhanced privacy and appearance, depending on the shade selected
  • XPEL's limited lifetime warranty, subject to warranty terms

Unlike conventional dyed window films, XR Plus uses advanced ceramic technology to provide substantial infrared heat rejection without relying on a dark appearance alone.

The Window Tint Configuration

For this 2027 Tesla Model Y L, Andrew installed:

Glass location                      Shade (Visible Light Transmittance)

              Front windshield                                               70%

              Panoramic glass roof                                      70%

              Front side windows                                          20%

              Second-row side windows                              20%

              Third-row side windows                                   20%

              Rear windshield                                                 20%

The 70% film provides a relatively light appearance, while the 20% film creates a darker, more consistent look along the sides and rear of the vehicle.

These percentages refer to the film's nominal visible light transmission (VLT), not its infrared heat rejection performance. Final light transmission through the glass depends on the factory glass and installed film combination.

Window tint regulations vary by glass location. Texas windshield and front-side-window requirements should be considered when choosing a tint configuration.

Why Three-Row Cabin Comfort Matters

The Model Y L's additional passenger space makes comfort throughout the cabin especially important.

For families and other owners who regularly use all three rows, reducing solar heat entering through the side and rear glass can help make the passenger experience more comfortable.

XPEL PRIME XR Plus provides high infrared heat rejection while maintaining the clarity and appearance Tesla owners expect.

The goal of this installation was to provide ceramic heat-rejection technology across the vehicle's major glass surfaces, rather than focusing only on the front-row occupants.
