Protecting a New 2027 Tesla Model Y L Before the First Rock Chip

Our second 2027 Tesla Model Y L originally had a straightforward appointment at Blue Ocean Auto Spa: XPEL PRIME XR Plus ceramic window tint.

It left with a much broader protection strategy.

That wasn't because the owner arrived looking for every protection service available. The additional work came from a conversation about his new Tesla, what had bothered him about his previous vehicle, and what he wanted to keep from happening again.

A Referral From Our First Model Y L Owner

There's already a connection between the first two six-seat Model Y Ls we've worked on.

The owner of this white Model Y L was referred to Blue Ocean by the owner of our first Model Y L project.

He already knew what he wanted for window tint and scheduled the vehicle for XPEL PRIME XR Plus 20% around the vehicle and XR Plus 70% on the windshield.

But when he arrived at our Cedar Park shop, we talked about more than his tint percentages.

We asked about his overall goals for the new Tesla.

That's when the project changed.

His Last Vehicle Had Too Many Rock Chips

During our conversation, the owner told us how much the rock chips on his previous vehicle had bothered him.

It had accumulated far more paint chips from road debris than he could stand.

Now he had a brand-new Model Y L sitting in our shop without those chips. Instead of waiting for the same problem to develop again, we explained how paint protection film could address the concern before normal driving started leaving its mark.

He decided to add XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS gloss full-front paint protection film.

The objective was simple: protect the vulnerable front of the Tesla before it received its first rock chip.

XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS Full-Front PPF

The Model Y L received a full-front PPF installation using XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS gloss.

This wasn't an add-on selected because every new Tesla automatically needs the same package. It addressed a problem this particular owner had already experienced and specifically wanted to avoid.

That's an important distinction.

Some customers arrive knowing exactly which PPF coverage they want. Others arrive knowing what they disliked about owning their previous vehicle.

In this case, the owner identified the problem. We could then explain a solution and let him decide whether protecting the new Tesla before damage occurred made sense for him.

He decided it did.

XR Plus Ceramic Window Tint

Window tint remained the service that originally brought the Model Y L to Blue Ocean.

The owner chose XPEL PRIME XR Plus 20% around the vehicle and XR Plus 70% on the windshield.

One Small Detail Told Us He Wanted to Protect the Screen

We noticed something else while looking over the new Tesla.

The owner had left the temporary protective plastic on the center display.

That little detail told us something useful: he clearly cared about keeping the screen from getting marked up.

So we asked about it.

We explained our longer-term screen-protection option using Stealth matte material, which provides a nearly invisible protective layer against scratching while also helping reduce the appearance of fingerprints.

He appreciated the low-pressure recommendation and decided to add the service.

It was a small example of why an in-person conversation can matter. Instead of automatically recommending another product, we noticed something the owner was already doing to protect his new vehicle and discussed a more permanent way to accomplish the same goal.

One Model Y L, One Protection Strategy

What began as an XR Plus appointment ultimately addressed three separate concerns:

XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS full-front PPF addressed the rock-chip problem the owner didn't want to repeat.

XPEL PRIME XR Plus ceramic window tint completed the tint configuration he had already selected.

Stealth matte screen protection addressed his desire to keep the center display protected and looking new.

They're different services, but they're part of one customer story.

The owner didn't come to Blue Ocean asking us to sell him everything possible. He came for tint. By asking about his goals, we discovered what had frustrated him about his previous car and what he cared about protecting on this one.

Then we gave him options.

It's not often we have two generations of Corvette sitting side by side in our Cedar Park shop—especially when they're exactly ten model years apart. This 2016 C7 Corvette and 2026 C8 Corvette came to Blue Ocean Auto Spa at the same time for similar treatment: paint enhancement followed by XPEL FUSION PLUS PREMIUM V2 ceramic coating. The result made for a great photo. But what happened before those finished photos is the more important part of this project. A ceramic coating can only perform over the surface underneath it. That's why we put so much emphasis on preparation before the coating ever touches the paint.
